"Words whereby thou shall be saved", Part 2. Acts 11:14. (Second part of a message preached in Walsham Le Willows Congregational Church, Suffolk, England) God has directed Cornelius, an unsaved soldier who has been led to seek after God, to send for Peter that he might preach the gospel to him. II. IT IS THROUGH HEARING THE WORD OF GOD THAT SINNERS ARE SAVED. The phrase, 'shall be saved' entails certain matters. Cornelius, nor any in his household, was then saved. By hearing God's Word he would discover how he could be saved. What does the Bible tell us about being saved? We shall follow this word through the Scriptures for a little. 1. We are saved by grace alone. Eph 2/5, II Tim 1/9. 2. We are saved by believing the gospel. Rom 10/9 3. We are saved by looking to Christ. Isaiah 45/22. 4. We are saved by trusting in Christ. Acts 16/31. 5. We are saved by calling upon Christ. Acts 2/21, Ps 34/6. 6. We are saved by forsaking all for Christ. Matt 19/21, 25 7. We are saved by regeneration by Christ. Titus 3/5. The Holy Spirit works with the Word. III. THERE IS A MESSAGE OF SALVATION HERE FOR ALL OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. "and all thy house'. Cornelius was not only informed about how he may be saved but his household also. He was head of the house and therefore responsible for guiding the rest to Christ that was now revealed to him. Like Noah, he was told to come into the ark and bring his family with him. 1. By example. Show what it is to believe. 2. By exhortation. Speak to them about salvation. 3. By earnest prayer. Doubtless, even before he was saved Cornelius included his family in his prayers.
