Words that save, Part 1Rev. Ivan FosterActs 11:14 · Sunday - AMSun Sep 28, 2014
"Words whereby thou shall be saved" -- Acts 11:14. (First part of a message preached in Walsham Le Willows Congregational Church, Suffolk, England) If it were left to men the gospel would never be shared with the nations of the world. Peter is challenged by some leading believers in Jerusalem after going amongst the Gentiles and preaching the gospel at God's command. It is as he is explaining how that God sent him to the home of Cornelius and there mightily blessed that he utters the words which form our text. They are the words of the angel to Cornelius. They tell us clearly that God hears the groanings of a troubled heart. Cornelius was not a saved man though regularly praying and endeavouring to live a good life (10:2). His religious activities were right and proper but could not bring him peace with God. To him God sends an angel. Does this not show us how important it is to find peace with God? There was someone else that God sent Whose coming far outshines the coming of an angel. " In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him," 1 John 4:9. Consider the words spoken by the angel. I. CORNELIUS WAS DIRECTED TO SEND FOR A PREACHER OF GOD'S WORD. (The message was concluded at the evening service.)
