"The perpetual problem of sin in the church" (A study based on Paul's first epistle to the Corinthians) No. 1 -- Its undeniable presence. It is necessary for us to first of all establish just what sin is. There are almost as many opinions on this matter as there are people on this planet! One man's sin is another man's pleasure! We turn to the Word of God for a definition as it alone is our authority on this matter. "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law," 1 John 3:4. Of this doctrine, the Shorter Catechism says: "Question 14: What is sin? Answer: Sin is any want of conformity unto, or transgression of, the law of God." That is what sin is!
