Christ's warning about deceiversWatch out for deceiversRev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - PMMatthew 24:4 · Sun Sep 11, 2011
The Saviour warns His people about deceivers in the last days "And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you," Matthew 24:4. (Preached in Penticton FPC, Lord's Day evening, September 11th, 2011.) The question is asked by the disciples of the Lord as they sit on the Mt of Olives overlooking Jerusalem: "And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?" Matthew 24:3. The Saviour does not dismiss their questions as something of no importance. No, He answers them at length. However, before answering them He issues a warning. "Take heed that no man deceive you." How important it is to heed this warning when considering the question of the Saviour's return and the end of this age. The warning is required because of three things: 1. Because of the increasing activity of the great deceiver - the devil. 2. Because of the decreasing knowledge of spiritual things amongst men. 3. Because of the growing distressfulness of the times.
