Christ's consecration, our example - Pt 1Consecration · part 1 of 2Rev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - AMLuke 2:49 · Sun Sep 12, 2010
Christ our example in consecration, Pt 1. "And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?" Luke 2:49. (Preached in Penticton FPC. First preached in Kilskeery FPC on 17th June 1979) Peter tells us that the Lord Jesus is set before us in the Holy Scriptures as an example for us to follow. "For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps," 1 Peter 2:21. It has to be emphasised that His example is to be followed as a "way of life" and not a "way to life". The distinction may appear small but it is vitally important. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9. We cannot work our way to heaven by trying to emulate the Lord Jesus. We must be born again, made a live in Christ and then we live out the life we have received from Christ by seeking to walk in His footsteps. Those virtues which are set forth in the lives of the saints of old as recorded in Holy Scripture are marked by failings and blemishes but no so Christ. I wish to consider Him as our example in consecration to His Father's will.
