“And take  . . .  the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,” Ephesians 6:17.

II. THE WEAPON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE WORD.

He supplies the Sword with which we must fight and also the strength and wisdom to employ it. 

1. The Holy Spirit’s weapon is the Word of God. 

What a contradiction this is to the persecuting ways of men. God’s work is not carried on with torture and terror.

Here is a word in season as the world faces a fresh confrontation with the “sword of Islam” wielded by the followers of the muslin faith! It is with the Word of God that the Holy Spirit carries on His war against His enemies.

He does not pummel the outer man but penetrates to the soul. It is with it that the Spirit would do business. Hebs 4:12.

2. It is His sword for He is its Maker. 

The Word of God is the Spirit’s product. II Tim 3:16, II per 1:20-21. It is Spirit breathed. It comes from deep within the heart of God. It overcomes men by revealing God to them, John 12:32. It is universal message of God to all men. The sword is a universal ageless weapon. It is still used in the form of a bayonet.
