Revive us againRev. Ivan FosterPsalm 85:6 · Special MeetingSun Aug 21, 2016

"Revive us again" 42nd Anniversary of the opening of the first building for the preaching of the gospel on this site. "Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?" Psalm 85:6. (Preached by the former minister at a special afternoon of prayer) 42 years ago, Kilskeery and many other like places in Northern Ireland, was enjoying a move of God's Spirit, though we did not realise it. When you are breathing the oxygen of heaven's blessing all the senses of the soul are quickened. Your sense of God's presence and your sense of your own sin and weakness are equally intensified. There is no sense of having escaped this world or our own sinfulness. It is only later that you can see what was happening. Revival does not bring us into a state of sinlessness. Rather, while being able to resist our sinful nature more successfully we are also more conscious of our sinfulness. So, in a way, it might appear at first that nothing has changed. Now, however, as we look back from our present backslidden and weaker state, we see just what the Lord did for us back then! Today, we praise Him for that time of mercy the fruits of which live on today. But we also are stirred to ask Him to "revive us again". The word 'revive' means to impart life or to quicken. That is what we need. As a fire burns low until only a few embers remain, then fuel is added and a draught of air is directed at its heart and in a short time it is burning brightly again. This is what we need here in Kilskeery. Please learn some truths from our Psalm.
