A sure word of prophecyTake heed to prophecyRev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - PM2 Peter 1:19 · Sun Jul 31, 2011
A sure word of prophecy "We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts," 2 Peter 1:19. (Preached at the evening service in Rutherglen FPC, Scotland.) I believe that what God has to say about the end times is very relevant to us all, especially as we are drawing close to the end of this age. Nothing is more dark to the human mind than the future. It is a direction in which we are unable to look. We can look back; we can look around us, interpret events that are taking place, but the future truly is unknown. The truth is, we 'know not what shall be on the morrow' (James 4:14), or what 'a day may bring forth' (Proverbs 27:1). Our natural state of ignorance regarding the future increases therefore the value of that which sheds light upon it. That is what makes prophecy not only relevant but invaluable. Our text tells us some very important truths which are relevant to our subject.
