Good cheer amidst a stormGood cheerRev. Ivan Foster · Sunday AfternoonActs 27:25 · Sun Aug 19, 2007
A sermon preached during a day of prayer for our land. "Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me," Acts 27:25. The danger the voyagers faced from the storm that threatened the ship was the result of disbelief and disobedience! This Paul reminds them of in verse 21. Facing up to our faults is necessary if we are ever to put them right and recover from their consequences. What Paul had to say to the ship's company illustrates for us the sovereign grace and mercy of God. Were any more deserving of the destruction they faced? Were any less deserving of being delivered? Such grace marks all of God's dealings with men. We should note that the man who was the instrument of deliverance was a man of faith. "I believe God" he says. Ulster needs men and women who can honestly describe themselves in like manner. We need men and women of faith.
