Preached in Penticton FPC, BC, Canada, on Lord's Day evening, August 16th, 2009. I wish to consider the fruits of such preaching from our text, Acts 2:41-42. In our first sermon we considered: I. FAITH IN THE WORD OF GOD 1. Faith is here defined. 2. This believing is distinguished from mere head knowledge. 3. Note the gladness of the believers. Now we come to the remaining points I wish to make from our text. II. FAITH WAS FOLLOWED BY A CONFESSING OF CHRIST 1. Their first act as Christians was one of obedience to the Word of God. 2. There was a receiving of the gospel from Peter and the apostles as the Word of God. 3. It was a public act. III. STEDFAST CONTINUANCE MARKED THEIR LIVES. 1. This was a total change of disposition. 2. It was a bold and brave stand. 3. What a blessed grace stedfastness is! IV. NOTE THE PATH UPON WHICH THEY CONTINUED 1. Their creed. 2. Their company. 3. Their worship. 4. Their praying. In private, family and above all, in church prayer. This is what the right doctrine, company and worship will produce -- prayer. This is the clearest evidence of the fruit of the Spirit, Acts 9:11 - "Behold, he prayeth".
