III. THE LIGHT THAT THE BELIEVER POSSESSES SHINES FORTH IN HOLINESS

1. This is the inevitable consequence of regeneration. Walk as children of the light, verse 8. He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life, John 8:12. If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him, John 11:9-10. To stumble means to walk into that which is not seen. Holiness is the ultimate in uprightness and order. Gen 1:1- order followed light. We walk as acrobats-with great care, verse 15.

2. The light brings forth fruit. For the fruit of the Spirzt is in all goodness and righteousness and truth, verse 9. The whole man is effected. Goodness, general character as seen by others. Righteousness, relationship with God. Truth, there is an adherence to that which is true. Phils 4:8. There is an awakening to life, 14. (Isa 60:1).

3. What a contrast with the worldling. Verses 11-12. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret, John 3:20. The believer reproves the world by separation and holiness, not as Lot, 2 Peter 2:8, who vexed, himself by seeing and hearing sin.
