Preached in Penticton FPC, BC, Canada, on Lord's Day morning, August 16th, 2009. "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers," Acts 2:41-42. Before we look at the result of the mighty preaching on the Day of Pentecost, let us quickly look at the preaching itself for we need to see such preaching again. 1. It was Biblical preaching. That is, it was centred upon an exposition of the Word of God. Bible's explanation of the wonderful events of that day, 16-21. Note that men had completely misunderstood what was happening, 7, 12-13. Biblical explanation of Who Jesus was, 22-36. Solemn declaration of the guilt incurred by the rejection of Christ, 36. 2. It was plain preaching. 22-23; 36. Peter pulled no punches! 3. It was effective preaching. 37, 41-42. This was because the Holy Ghost was working with the preachers that day. " . . in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed." Acts 14:1. Mark 16:20. It is only by such preaching that we may see again the results of that great day. I wish to consider the fruits of such preaching from our text, 41-42.
