Turning our eyes upon Jesus-Pt 1Consider Him · part 1 of 2Rev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - AMHebrews 12:2-3 · Sun Aug 15, 2010
Turning our eyes upon Jesus - Pt 1 "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds," Hebs 12:2-3. (Preached in Penticton FPC. First preached in Kilskeery FPC, May 13th 1979) What little information we can glean from this epistle regarding the people to whom it was written presents us with an afflicted people, 10:32-39. In order to comfort and strengthen them in their trials, Paul points them back to former pilgrims and their trials. Chapter 11 is all about such. However, he now administers the strongest cordial of all for the weary soul - he calls on them to look unto Jesus, to "Consider Him". We will consider first of all WHAT IT MEANS TO CONSIDER HIM The word "looking" carries the meaning of "looking away from all other things and fix your eyes of Christ." The word "consider" means to "ponder, think upon, consider". That is what we are to do as we gather to worship this morning.
