Escape, Escape!!Rev. Ivan FosterHebrews 2:3 · Sunday - PMSun Jul 5, 2015

"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him," Hebrews 2:3.

The "escape" that is spoken of here is, of course, that escaping of which Paul speaks in Romans 2:3. "And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?"

There is no event more certain than the dreadful coming judgment of God.

1. His Word has declared it.

2. His holiness demands it.

3. Man's rebellion deserves it.

4. World has tasted it.

And yet there is nothing about which man is more willingly blind and deceived! He will give no thought, heed no warning, see no evidence, regard no testimony of that great day of retribution.

The indisputable evidence of the judgment of God which overtook the earth in Noah's day is buried beneath a deluge of myth and fable which pours forth from the Goliaths of science so-called!

Men labour to erase every trace of the abundant testimony which the earth yields to God's visitation of man's sin in former times.

Little wonder then that the day of wrath will overtake millions unawares! "That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits," Isaiah 30:9-10.

It is to seek to counter this folly that we attempt, like Paul, to press home the question in our text.
