The forgotten Friend "Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him," Genesis 40:23. (Preached in John Knox Memorial FPC, July 18th, 2010, at 7.00 pm. First preached in Kilskeery FPC, June 22nd 1980) In the book of Genesis, the history of seven major Old Testament characters is given. They are Adam, Enoch, Abraham, Lot, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. The story of Joseph begins in chapter 30 and continues to the last chapter of the book, chapter 50. Nearly half of the book of Genesis is given over to the story of Joseph. The reason for this is, I believe, because of the likeness to Christ that is found in the character of Joseph. One of the likenesses to Christ that may be seen is that Joseph was forgotten by one who had every reason to remember him. I refer to Pharaoh's butler.
