As a child's first reading book is full of pictures, so it is with the book of Genesis and with the early chapters in particular. God has given us many wonderful illustrations of His truth and the main features of it in the book of Genesis, the doorway to God's revelation unto men. In this chapter, we are presented with : The WILES OF THE DEVIL. He is the subtle serpent that beguiles with lies and half truths. THE WAGES OF SIN. In this chapter we see have our first look into the abyss to which sin will bring mankind. As our Shorter Catechism states: "All mankind by their fall lost communion with God, are under his wrath and curse, and so made liable to all miseries in this life, to death itself, and to the pains of hell for ever" (Answer 19). THE WAY OF SALVATION. How much gospel truth is set forth ion the verse 21. "Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them." Man's attempts to clothe himself were inadequate. God in mercy provided a covering at the cost of the shedding of the blood of a sacrifice. Here is Calvary plainly depicted moments after the fall of man. Tonight, I wish to consider the words of verse 24, particularly the phrase: "So he drove out the man."
