The Godly Man's Laughter!Sorrows dealt with at CalvaryRev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - PMIsaiah 53:4 · Sun Jun 24, 2007
In this world, the Christian is often provoked to grief and tears. There is much here in this vale to reduce us to sorrow. Ps 119:136. Ps 42:3. Luke 6:21. That is not surprising for our Saviour was known as a "Man of sorrows", Isaiah 53:3. "Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted," Isaiah 53:4. Yet even for Him, upon Whom was laid our sorrows, there was a well of joy that sustained Him. "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God," Hebrews 12:2. His joy was His anticipation of bringing His many sons to glory, Hebrews 2:10. "He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities," Isaiah 53:11. Many laugh when they have no grounds for laughter and joy. "For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity," Ecclesiastes 7:6. That is not the case with the child of God.
