The Return of Christ, Pt 72KICS School Assembly Talks · part 72 of 72Rev. Ivan Foster · Tue Jun 23, 2015Revelation 22:6-7 · Children
Our final study of Christ's coming again for this school year Here in the final chapter of the Bible we have Christ's concluding remarks on the prophecies contained in this book. I. HE SAYS THAT HE IS COMING 'QUICKLY' "Behold, I come quickly . . . . . "And, behold, I come quickly . . . . Surely I come quickly," Revelation 22:7,12, 20. The meaning of this word 'quickly' is important. It does not carries within it the idea of coming soon or in the near future. Rather, it means that His coming will be accomplished very quickly. Note His own description of that event in Revelation 16:15. "Behold, I come as a thief." The thief, when he strikes, do so with speed so as to accomplish his wickedness in as short a time as possible in order to minimise the possibility of being caught. It is in this sense that the Saviour employs the word 'quickly'. Saviour warned many times of this suddenness, Matt 24:43, 1 Thess 5:2-4, 2 Pet 3:10, Rev 3:3. Things will develop very quickly at the end. II. IT IS THE BLESSED DUTY OF THE CHRISTIAN TO WATCH AND WAIT FOR THAT GLORIOUS EVENT "Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book," 22:7. Watching and waiting has a sanctifying influence upon God's people. "Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame." III. THE CHILD OF GOD SHOULD DELIGHT IN THE THOUGHT OF CHRIST'S RETURN. "Even so, come, Lord Jesus." Revelation 22:20. "Amen" - John agrees with such a statement. "Even so, come, Lord Jesus." Even as You have revealed it to us, so come. He longs for His return in glory and power. May that be the abiding desire of our hearts.
