Pictures of Christ - 15 - Elijah the prophet 1 Kings 18:36-40. The confrontation between Elijah and the false prophets on Mt Carmel is a wonderful picture of that final conflict with which this age will end. This is not surprising as the last battle is but the conclusion of all the battles in which God's people have been involved. War has long raged. "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel," Genesis 3:15. Former warriors will be there, " . . . the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee," Zechariah 14:5; Jude 1:14-15. The saints will be involved in the final confrontation even as Elijah is here. "And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. . . . . And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean," Revelation 19:11, 14. "And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth," Matthew 25:30. The "ye" referred to here are the glorified saints and this is their first task - passing the sentence upon the wicked. This is keeping with Israel so often required to stone the guilty such as Achan, Joshua 7:25.
