Bring Back the King, 1Recovery from Rebellion · part 1 of 4Rev. Ivan Foster · Conference2 Samuel 19:10 · Sat May 5, 2012
"Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?" 2 Samuel 19:10. The first message in a series of 4 preached at the Believers' Bible Conference held in Liverpool Free Presbyterian Salop Chapel, 5th & 7th May 2012. "The Cause of the King's removal" A spirit of rebellion and backsliding wishes to abandon the old paths. This develops into utter abandonment and pagan darkness reigns. UK in 2012 !!?? The spirit of obedience and submission to Christ would have God's order restored. That is what lies behind the our text. David had been banished for a time from Jerusalem by a rebellion led by Absalom his son. We need to understand why David was expelled. In a nutshell you have what rebellion amongst God's people entails. It is a rejecting of Christ the King. It is a story in which young people feature though adults were largely responsible for the attitudes which developed amongst the young. This can happen still amongst God's people. FPC was born of a "bringing back the King". Ecumenism had expelled the Lord and His order. The FPC sought to recover Christ and His ways, as was done in many previous ages.
