Sweet waters for sad daysRefreshment from God's riverRev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - PMPsalm 46:4 · Sun May 6, 2007
This brief psalm gives a stunning insight into the turmoil that will mark the end of this age. It will be a time of geological and moral upheaval. "Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah," Psalm 46:2-3. It is a time when the wicked nations of the world will rage against God and His truth. "The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted," Psalm 46:6. It is the same event as that mentioned in Psalm 2, 83:1-8 & Luke 21:25-28. Never is the peace of God granted to God's people as it is in a time of trouble! Then the Lord is a "very present" help, verse 1. There is in these words comfort for us, in the midst the distresses that have been visited upon the FPC of Ulster. These distresses, I might note, seem to increase more and more as the consequences of the power-sharing deal at Stormont are uncovered for all to see.
