The Return of Christ, Pt 65KICS School Assembly Talks · part 65 of 72Rev. Ivan Foster · Thu May 28, 2015Revelation 21:1-8 · Children
The New Jerusalem This glorious city is first mentioned under this title in Rev 3:12. It is linked to the "Overcomer" or the victorious believer. It is of course our eternal home. 1. It is a city long desired. Abraham - "For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God . . . . But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city," Hebs 11:10, 16. "Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come," Hebs 13:13-14. 2. Its builder and maker is God. It descends out of heaven. "And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband," Revelation 21:2. How glorious it must be. Is this not the place of which Christ spoke: "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also," John 14:2-3. The old Jerusalem was marred by much sin, culminating in the crucifixion of Christ. "And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified," Revelation 11:8. We will continue this study in our next assembly.
