Burma and China's WoesMessage to a Troubled PeopleRev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - PMLuke 13:3,5 · Sun May 18, 2008

We send greetings to the people of those troubled regions and assure them of the prayers of God's people. When preparing this message we discovered that in December '07, 4 of our sermons were downloaded from within China. This number increased to 863 in April, making up some 15% of the total downloads for the month. We are delighted to know that so many from a land so long closed against the gospel should link to a small church in the backwoods of Co. Tyrone in Northern Ireland! May the Lord bless all who access our site. Now to our subject for this evening. Whenever the Saviour repeated Himself it is well for us to note His words for they are of importance. The report given Him of Pilate's slaughter of those Galilaeans at worship was obviously uttered in such a way as to betray a spirit of self-righteousness and a willingness to harshly judge those victims of Pilate's actions. Hence His rebuke and His repeated assertion that all of them needed to repent lest they likewise perish in their sins. The Saviour would lead us all away from judging those upon whom calamity sudden falls and viewing them as especially deserving of such judgment. Calamity overtakes all, the wicked and the righteous. It is utter folly to contemplate and comment on the suddenness with which men can be hurled into the presence of the Almighty unprepared and unready while we are in the same state ourselves. The hearing of disasters overtaking others should make us all tremble and thankfully bless the hand of mercy that spare us from such. Consider the words of our text.
