Since the beginning of the new school year in September 2015, Rev Foster has been speaking at two morning assembly meetings each week. His theme for 2015-16 is DV, "Pictures of Christ in the Bible." Tenth Picture - Joshua Joshua 1:10-16. Joshua did what Moses was unable to do. He did what Moses couldn't do. Moses gave them and taught them the Law but could not bring them into Canaan. Moses was forbidden to lead the people into the promised land because of his failure to rightly obey God. "And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them," Numbers 20:11-12. What Moses did not do Joshua did. "For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh," Romans 8:3. The flesh cannot keep the law. If we were able to keep it, it would take us to heaven. It pictures the fact that the law is our teacher as stated by Paul. "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith," Galatians 3:24. This is what the old Puritan's called "The Law work", the preparing of the soul by convincing it of its sinfulness, helplessness and utter need of Christ.
