Studies in Haggai #9Back to work · part 9 of 13Rev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - AMHaggai 2:6-9 · Sun May 14, 2006
God's answer is to despondency amongst His people Israel is to direct their hearts and minds to His promises. He wants them to look back and also to look forward. This week we continue our consideration of how the Lord had them look forward to the glory that will be linked to His temple and to Jerusalem, then lying in ruins, in the latter days. 1. He would have them remember the day of wrath upon the nations. "And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts," Haggai 2:7. Judgment of the wicked and the glory of Israel go together. "Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger," Isaiah 13:13. See verses 6, 10-11, 19-22. The signs indicate the future coming of Christ, Matt 24:29; Luke 21:25-28. 2. It is a day when Jerusalem will be exalted. Isaiah 2:2-4; Zech 8:1-8, 14:3-4, 12:10, 13:1. What a future for the city that lay in ruins in Haggai's day!
