III. WE CAN ONLY RESIST THE DEVIL WHILE WEARING THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

We must be clothed in the armour of God if we are to stand against the enemy.

1. That armour is Christ.

We are called to don Him. Rom 13:12-14. Many metaphors are used of Christ. This one of the most suggestive.

2. We must put on the armour.

The words means sink into or surrender to. We are required to be in a constant state of readiness. The armour of man is uncomfortable to wear but not Christ, Matt 11:30, Psalm 122:1, Ps 19:9-10, 63:5, 119:103,Job 23:12

3. We must put on the whole armour of God.

Sin surrounds us, Hebs 12:1. We are in the midst of enemies, Phil 2:15. Each grace of Christ is linked to another, II Pet 1:5-7. We cannot neglect any grace without endangering all. Does this not explain why we so often feel the enemy’s blows!
