This message via Haggai came less than a month after his first, 1:15. It was to counter the depression of the people that the prophet's message was sent from the Lord of Hosts. God's answer is to refocus His people's hearts and minds upon His promises. That is what happens here. He wants them to look back and also to look forward. Last week we consider how the Lord had His people look back to the exodus and the promise He made to them there. Now we will look forward as the Lord reminds His people of the glory that will be linked to His temple in the latter days.
