God further show his love to those who questioned it by patiently showing to them proof of His love. His love was seen in the choice of Jacob their father. He goes on to show that His love for them is demonstrated in His dealings with them over sin and how different it was from His dealings with the land of Edom. Edom ceased to be under God's judgment but Israel was judged in order to restore her to obedience. This is what manifests the love that God has for His people. "For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world," 1 Corinthians 11:31-32.
