Studies in Haggai #5Back to work · part 5 of 13Rev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - AMHaggai 1:7-15 · Sun Mar 19, 2006
The people have been brought to see their failures. This was something they had not been capable of until divine grace intervened. Having seen their sins, they are told that they should restart the building of the temple. DESPITE OUR FAILURES, WE MAY START AGAIN. How glorious is the truth that God does not abandon His people because of their failures! He sets before us the way of recovery. 1. Recovery requires the climbing of a mountain. Verse 7-8. That which was to be literally done by the Jews is symbolic of what we all must do in order to be restored to God's favour. The mountain for us is Calvary. It is there we will find both forgiveness and restoration and the materials to build God's house. 1 Cor 3:12; Col 2:7; 1 Pet 2:5. 2. Such labours please God. The word means "acceptable", Rom 12:1-2; 1 Pet 2:5. 3. We thereby glorify God. No glory was being brought to God through the idle building site of the temple. The labours of His people did bring honour to Him. Eph 4:14 -- 5:2.
