2. He wishes to keep us in sin.

This he does, 

(A) By misrepresenting the sins committed. He will call them too small to be worried about. He will call them too great to be forgiven.

(B) By misrepresenting God. He will say that God does not mind their sins or that He is so vengeful that mercy is impossible. Thus he deceives and further entangles his victims and keeps them in his web.
