Hatred that Produced the CrossUnchanged Animosity of ManRev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - PMRomans 8:7 · Sun Mar 23, 2008
The words of our text answers the question "Why do men unrelentingly seek to undermine and discredit the Bible's record of the Saviour's work of redemption?" It is because of the sinful disposition of the mind of man toward God. The BBC recently produced a series of plays about the death and resurrection of Christ. They naturally were not content to go to the Word of God. No, they must consult "recent research and the latest scholarship". We are told that the plays depicts in a sympathetic manner Pontius Pilate, Caiaphas the high priest and Judas. The programme-makers believe these characters have been given a "raw deal" by history! Irrespective of what history has said, what saith the Word of God? The writers even seek to alter the facts about the death of Christ. They say He was crucified in a "foetal" position, that is curled up, with his arms rather than His hands being nailed to the cross. This sets the pattern for the plays contents. I wish to view these assertions by the BBC writers and programme-makers in the light of the gospel. We shall see that the old animosities which were so visible at the cross are indeed active still today.
