Purging by the promises. (Preached in Kilskeery FPC) "Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." 2 Corinthians 7:1. We have here an example of a bad chapter divison. What verse 1 of chapter 7 states is very closely related to and is an integral part of what Paul has been saying from verse 14 of chapter 6. In 6:14-18, the apostle has listed some wonderful promises regarding the Christian's relationship with God. It is because of these promises that we are to 'cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.' We started this message in the prayer meeting of two weeks ago and I thought that this morning we would seek to conclude it.
