Martyrs willing to die -WHY?Reformation Remembered · part 2 of 2Rev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - AMHebrews 11:35 · Sun Mar 19, 2017
Why were the martyrs willing to die? " . . . . and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection," Hebrews 11:35. Here is a strange decision. 'Not accepting deliverance.' There are a number of terrible means of putting a person to death mentioned her yet there were those who refused 'deliverance' or release and the word means. Furthermore, here is an underlying disposition of heart. 'That they might obtain a better resurrection.' These are a people to whom eternity was real and consideration of it totally overruled all other considerations. This was the disposition of heart and mind and soul of the martyr. No matter what they had to endure they would not jeapordise they soul's eternal well-being in order to obtain release. That was the disposition of the martyr but it must also be ours as well.
