Christ on trial - Pt 2aChrist before Herod · part 1 of 2Rev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - AMLuke 23:8-11 · Sun Mar 14, 2010
The Lord Jesus on trial before Herod Luke 23:8-11. The mention of Galilee by the chief priests was a calculated attempt to incite Pilate against the Lord Jesus. In Luke 13:1, there is a reference to an incident in which Pilate killed a large number of Galileans. It is likely that they were involved in some sort of insurrection. It might be expected, therefore that Pilate would immediately act against Christ when His accusers said that, "He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place," Luke 23:5. The plan misfired for Pilate did not react the way that his accusers anticipated that he would. Instead, he saw a way to rid himself of the problem of Jesus when he heard a reference to Galilee. That was Herod's jurisdiction and therefore he could adjudicate in this case. Thus the Lord Jesus was brought before Herod and thus the Scriptures were fulfilled, Acts 4:25-27. Please consider what the Word of God here tells us about Herod.
