Recalling past mercies - a means to revival "When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream," Psalm 126:1. (Preached in Kilskeery FPC in the evening of a day set aside to remember the mercies of God to the FPC) What a pleasure it is to share in this service tonight and to be given the joyful task of recalling the early days of the work of God in this area. The psalm before us provides for us a pattern upon which we may lay out our recollections. 1. Remembering the past is proper and beneficial. That may be seen in the fact that God has given us an inspired record of many of the great events of the past. "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope," Romans 15:4. 2. It leads on from this that God is able to repeat the past. "Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south," verse 4. Note the word "HOPE" in Romans 15:4. 3. That in turn suggests that we should be looking for the Lord to work as in former times. Remember Gideon - Judges 6:13.
