Made whole in a momentA testimony of God's mercyRev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - PMJohn 5:8-9 · Sun Feb 27, 2011
"Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath," John 5:8-9. (Ballymagerney FPC, Lord's evening, 27th February 2011.) I have been invited to come here tonight and tell how I was converted. The purpose of God in this man's life and in the healing of him was to bring honour to Christ. The man instinctively began to do just that as soon as he knew Who it was that healed him, verse 15. As to this man being saved through this incident, we may conclude that from the verse 14. He went immediately to the temple. 1. He went to give thanks to God. 2. It was there that he met with Christ again and grew in knowledge. The Saviour had withdrawn from the multitude but met with the man in the temple. 3. He is awakened to righteousness. "Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee," verse 14. 4. He immediately begins to testify. There is always a similarity between the conversions recorded in the Bible and our own. God's way never changes. The means, the method and the objective remain the same. Therefore conversions now and conversions 2000 years ago or 5000 years ago bear the same likeness. As I read this passage I observe so much of what I experienced some 47 years ago.
