The Importance of Prayer Meeting, No 4. Chief place of doing ourselves good. "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint," Isaiah 40:31 (Preached in Tavistock FPC) It is the Christian's duty to take care of his own soul. It is his vineyard from which the Lord will look for a harvest, Isaiah 5:1-7. We are commanded to be fruitful, John 15:16, Romans 7:4, Philippians 1:10-11. The growth that we are to cultivate is CHRISTLIKENESS. The soul that manifests His likeness is enjoying the full benefits of salvation. If we would meet with Him then we must go where He is - at the place of prayer, Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25. Was Moses or Stephen ever more happy or content or at peace than when their faces shone, Exodus 34:29, Acts 6:15. We are creatures of heaven and do best in its atmosphere and environment, John 15:19, 1 John 4:4-6.
