What is Heaven? Rev 21:1-8. (Preached in Tavistock FPC) The Bible teaches that, upon death, the soul of the believer departs this world and goes to be with Christ (absent from the body . . . . present with the Lord, II Corinthians 5:8. His body remains in the earth until the resurrection of believers at the return of Christ, I Thess alonian4:16. The body of the believer is then raised in the likeness of Christ, a glorified body and reunited with the glorified soul, I Corinthians 15:52-54. For 1000 years, the glorified saints shall share with Christ in His Millennium reign of peace and righteousness here on earth. During this time the devil will be imprisoned in the Bottomless Pit and the power of sin suppressed, Revelation 20:1-6, Isaiah 11:1-9. At the end of the 1000 years the devil will be released for a little season. He will immediately seek to muster the unsaved among the nations in rebellion against Christ and His people. He is swiftly defeated whereupon the Great White Throne of Judgment is established and the bodies of the ungodly are brought forth from the graves and their souls from hell and judged according to the record of their deeds. They are then cast into the Lake of Fire to suffer eternally for the deeds of wickedness of which they have been found guilty, Revelation 20:7-15. The old creation is destroyed with fire by God and a new creation is brought forth, I Peter 3:7-13. The New Heavens shall be the dwelling place of the saved throughout eternity. I wish to speak of that eternal dwelling place.
