The Redeemer of Zion "And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD," Isaiah 59:20.

Preached at a Sovereign Grace Advent Testimony meeting in London.

We are blessed with a divine commentary on this text through the pen of the apostle Paul. He gives us the divinely inspired meaning of these words in Romans 11:25-27. "For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: for this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins."

Sadly, many are in ignorance of this glorious truth, despite the plain teaching of Paul. Ignorance of God's Word leads on to proud and conceited speculation on the part of men as Paul states here. We need not speculate on this matter for the truth is plainly stated. The present state of blindness of the Jewish people will end one day. The word "blindness" refers to the covering of a callus. The same word is translated "hardness" in Mark 3:5 and refers to the wickedness of Christ's opponents. Their hardness made them blind to Christ's identity and set them against Him. Such is the state of the Jew today but one day that will change when the Redeemer comes to Zion.
