Burden of the Word of Lord #1Studies in Malachi · part 2 of 25Rev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - AMMalachi 1:1 · Sun Feb 24, 2008
What a difference the word "burden" suggest between the message of the man of God and that of those men-pleasers mentioned by Paul in 2 Tim 4:3. "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears." Such are the same as the prophets whose ministry was desired by the people in the days of Isaiah. "That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits," Isaiah 30:9-10. All too often today's preacher obtains his "message" for his Sabbath services from an internet site where sermon outlines may be freely copied. Such preaching may contain God's Word but it is not God's message! Such actions suggest a form of pulpit professionalism which turns the occupant of the pulpit into a sort of "showbiz master of ceremonies" presiding, not over a time of worship but rather over an hour of entertainment and droolery! This was not so with Malachi and his compatriots. They were men conscious of the weighty matters they were called upon to deal with.
