What Christ wants us to watch for? That Christ desires us to be watchful and what He means by watchfulness may be seen from the words of Matthew 24:32-44. The Saviour parallels Christian watchfulness regarding prophetic matters to the common watching of the natural creation, especially at this time of the year, for signs of the coming of Spring and Summer. How common is that practice amongst us. "For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; the fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away," Song of Solomon 2:11-13. Prophetic study should be as common amongst Christians as is the observation of nature's ways amongst men. Furthermore, prophetic study is as simple as the learning of the lessons of nature. "He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?" Matthew 16:2-3. What then are we to watch for?
