"Return unto me, and I will return unto you" "Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?" Malachi 3:7. This chapter highlights a promise of the coming of the Messiah and His forerunner and also the task He will be seeking to carry out. He will be a blessing to those who delight in Him and a fierce witness against the wicked. Our text, verse 7, begins God's enumeration of the sins of the Jews, which were the cause of their ruin. Here is first a general charge of departure from the statutes and ordinances of God's law. It was an early, long, and continued departure from the ways of God. They had so long ago begun to forsake the ordinances of God. Man believes that the religion of Christ as set forth in the Bible is a result of a process of evolution on the part of man as he has sought after God. Consequently, he feels it proper to go on seeking to change and "advance" his knowledge of God. That is not so!
