Our Saviour King The Lord Jesus Christ, in order to carry out the work of our Redeemer, executes three offices in that work. The Shorter Catechism states the matter very clearly in answer to questions 23-26. Please ever study this little book. 1. He is a Prophet. As a prophet He reveals to us, by his word and Spirit, the will of God for our salvation. 2. He is a Priest. As a priest, He offered up of himself a sacrifice to satisfy divine justice, and reconcile us to God; and in making continual intercession for us. 3. He is a King. As a King Christ subdued us to himself, He rules and defends us, and in He restrains and conquers all his and our enemies. It is the work of Christ our King that I would like to consider today. The Lord Jesus REIGNS over us and RESCUES us from all our enemies. We come to the heart of our experience of God's saving grace when we consider the Kingly actions of Christ toward His people.
