"And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. It is said of the pig that it cannot look up until it lies upon its back! Is this not at least one likeness between sinful man and that lowly animal! A man is sorely reduced in this world when all he has for a pillow is a stone!

Jacob, who but lately had enjoyed the comforts of a prosperous home and an adoring mother, is now a lonely wanderer. Why? Sin is the answer.

But in the midst of his want and deprivation, God draws near and meets with Jacob, and what a meeting it was!
