 "And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it," Genesis 28:11-12. \

It is said of the pig that it cannot look up until it lies upon its back! Is this not at least one likeness between sinful man and that lowly animal! A man is sorely reduced in this world when all he has for a pillow is a stone!

Jacob, who but lately had enjoyed the comforts of a prosperous home and an adoring mother, is now a lonely wanderer. Why? Sin is the answer.

But in the midst of his want and deprivation, God draws near and meets with Jacob, and what a meeting it was!
