The 12th picture of Christ - Boaz He was a kindly redeemer. "Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn." "And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not: and let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not," 2:9, 15-16. 1. This kindness is a reflection of the Saviour's care for us - even when we did not know Him. Three points are here to be considered. Here is the second one. 2.Ruth received all she needed by way of food and drink. As Boaz was to Ruth so is the Lord to each one of us. He is the source of our food and drink. "Give us this day our daily bread," Matt 6:11. "Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine," Psalm 33:18-19. "O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing," 34:9-10. This world enjoys the bounty of God but few, very few ever acknowledge His kindness. Famine is the Lord's means of chastening those who forget Him, who turn to idols. Famine never troubles a God-fearing people! 2 Chronicles 7:13-14.
