“Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable,” Hebrews 11:12.

This is a follow-on from verse  11. We will read them together. Let us remember that faith was at work in the heart of Sarah which made this wonderful miracle possible.

Sarah’s faith is seen in that she believed that “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty” 1 Corinthians 1:27.

1. Sarah understood this great truth. Long before Paul was inspired to write those words in 1st Corinthians 1:27, and explain God’s method of working out His purpose, Sarah understood that when the Lord chose her to be the “mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her,” Genesis 17:16.

2. God’s ways are simply not men’s ways! “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD,” Isaiah 55:8. Mankind has “not known my ways,” Psalm 95:10.

3. It is for this reason Calvary was seen by the disciples as such a grave error! “From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee,” Matthew 16:21-22. This ignorance is the source of much grief and despondency amongst God’s people. “And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? . . . . Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself,” Luke 24:17, 25-27. How FOOLISH it is not to heed the Bible!

4. The fact that God created the universe out of nothing, should help us understand that He can take up His weak people and of them bring much good into existence! This has an application for each Christian. It is said that D L Moody said: “The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to him.” The Lord Jesus said: “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive,” John 7:38-39.

Sarah became as a mighty river from which flowed blessings for millions!
