Woman, behold thy son, Pt 2KICS Studies - Seven Sayings of the Saviour on the Cross · part 10 of 23Rev. Ivan Foster · YouthJohn 19:26-27 · Tue Feb 7, 2023

When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home,” John 19:26-27.

A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE, Pt 2.

I. There is an example here for disciples. “Jesus therefore saw . . . the disciple standing by, whom he loved.”

1. Nothing denotes our love more clearly than our standing with the Lord Jesus in His day of reproach and shame.

2. That is the duty of every Christian today. “Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach,” Hebrews 13:13.

3. That is the place where we here in KFPC wish to stand!

II. Disciples should understand that there are mothers to be cared for who are not in our family.

1. Remember the words of the Saviour. “And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother,” Matthew 12:49-50.

2. Notice how promptly John acted. “From that hour”. It is only when we are near the cross and feels its power that we act so quickly. Rom 12:1-2.

3. Remember the argument Paul used: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God.”

III. Note the wholeheartedness of John’s response. “And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.” His home was made to be her home. He could not really give her more. This is the measure of kindness that the Lord would have us show. Hebs 10:32-34.
