We come to the final section of the Psalm. Here we have the wise path to take in the light of the truth the Lord has revealed in the verse 1-9. In those verses the Lord has shown that there are no secrets hidden from Him. He knows of man’s plans to rebel.

Furthermore, men are clearly told that God’s purpose to establish Christ upon the throne of this earth WILL succeed and that Christ is but prayerfully waiting for the Father’s time to bring that about.

Please note in these verses:—

I. THE WISEST THING A PERSON CAN DO IS TO OBEY THE WORD OF GOD

That entails:—

1. Take instruction. It means be ‘corrected’. Man is a sinner on the wrong path.

2. There are none too great or too wise to be helped by the gospel. Kings and Judges need the gospel!

II. WHAT IS ENTAILED IN OBEYING THE GOSPEL?

1. Serve the Lord. He has a work for you to do.

2. Be ever conscious of His greatness and power. We need to fear Him exceedingly.

3. We serve the Lord with joy. Joy is the ongoing experience of the true servant of God and its fulness will be our reward. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord,” Matt 25:21.

Note the use of the word ‘trembling’, verse 11. Our joy is not the rude, coarse and crude joy of the world, which is short. “For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity,” Ecclesiastes 7:6.

4. Reconciliation with Christ is required. “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little.” There is a day of Christ’s anger that rejectors will face, Revelation 6:12-17.

5. The final word is that of the blessing the believer will have for all eternity. “Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.”

“All they” -  that includes you if you believe.
