“The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant,” Psalm 25:14.
“He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given,” Matthew 13:11.
We have been looking at some verses in Psalm 110 where we have the ONE prophetic reference in the Psalms to this age we live in. We are told where Christ is NOW and what He is doing, waiting for His enemies to be made a ‘footstool’ for His feet. Before we start looking at the other prophetic references to the end times in the Psalms, let us learn:
I. THE OLD TESTAMENT SAINTS WERE INSTRUCTED IN END-TIME EVENTS!
- This is very evident from the earliest times of Bible history. “And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days,” Gen 49:1. See Jude 14-15.
- This knowledge was repeatedly set forth by all the prophets. “Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began,” Acts 3:21.
- Evidence of this knowledge is seen in the questions asked by the disciples in Matthew 24:3. “Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” They did not have a perfect understanding for they had no understanding of the Messiah coming in humility and dying as a sacrifice for sin. Matthew 16:21-22; Luke 24:25-27.
II. PROPHECIES OF THE END-TIMES FEATURED IN THE WORSHIP OF OLD TESTAMENT SAINTS.
- The second Psalm in particular shows that. Here is a detailed outline of future events.
- We will see in our studies that the believing OT saints were taught in great detail what lay ahead for the nation of Israel. How many of God’s people today are acquainted with what God has revealed about the last days? Sadly, it is but a few it seems. It is mentioned very rarely and when it is, it is in a most general manner! Yet it is plain in the knowledge the OT saints had that it is GOD’S WILL for us to acquainted with these truths also.
- The Lord has RECORDED this information so that we would know and understand it. Romans 15:4, 1 Cors 10:11; 2 Tim 3:16.
