The day the world will sing, Pt 3KICS Studies - Some of my Favorite Psalms · part 41 of 69Rev. Ivan Foster · YouthPsalm 100:3 · Mon Jun 27, 2022

“Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture,” Psalm 100:3.

This verse starts off with the word ‘know’. Here are three things the Lord would have us ‘know’!

I. THE LORD WOULD HAVE US KNOW THAT HE IS GOD.

The Christian religion is an intelligent and informed religion. False religion is ever shrouded in darkness.

1. Our God is JEHOVAH. The wonderful title means ‘The Existing One’. He is supreme. This is the first truth we must learn. “I live for ever,” Deut 32:40.

2. We can only know Him as He reveals Himself. Otherwise, we would be atheists! “Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?” Job 11:7. We cannot. “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable,” Ps 145:3. See Isaiah 40:28, Matthew 11:27.

3. Seeing Who He is, we must obey Him. Who can defy the Almighty and survive?

II. THE LORD WOULD HAVE US KNOW THAT HE HAS MADE US.

1. Man would believe that he is his own ‘maker’. We have to be told that the Lord made us. Our sicknesses, our dying tells us we did not make ourselves!

2. He made all things out of nothing. Men make much but they need materials. God made all of creation out of nothing, ex nihilo - creation out of nothing.

3. Therefore we are His possession. We are His by Creation and also Regeneration. “The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them,” Psa 89:11. “The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun,” Psa 74:16. That which the Lord has made is His. “The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil,” Proverbs 16:4. “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him,” Colossians 1:16.

III. KNOW THAT HE MADE US FOR HIMSELF.

We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”

1. God had a purpose in making man. It pleased Him to create us for Himself.

2. He is our benefactor. Our Shepherd, Provider and Protector.

3. Being His people and His flock requires certain responses from us. As such we are obliged to submit to Him. He is our Sovereign.

4. We can be sure that God had a wise and good purpose for our creation.
